Avast, me hearties! Windows 11 be haltin' the castin' feature upgrade for a wee while, settlin' for improvin' the navigatin' o' the system and makin' the user experience a jollier one.
Microsoft has temporarily pulled back on an upcoming upgrade to the video casting feature in Windows 11 due to bugs. The feature was available to members of Microsoft's Windows Insider Program, but has been dropped from the latest Windows 11 preview. Video casting allows users to choose and control media on their computer and see it on their TV screen. The removal of the feature was discovered in an update released on October 19, and if users choose to upgrade to this preview build, they will find that it lacks the casting experience. Microsoft has disabled the feature while it fixes bugs and improves it, but plans to switch it back on in a future release. In addition to the video casting issue, the latest preview build of Windows 11 introduces some minor changes. The Xbox Game Bar now shows up as "Game Bar" in the Start menu, and system components are labeled as "System" in the Start menu and All apps display. The Game Bar will also update via the Microsoft Store. The update also includes fixes for crash-related issues with the Start menu and taskbar glitches affecting the search function.
Dropping the upgraded video casting feature is a wise decision, as Microsoft needs to ensure it competes with the popular Chromecast feature in Google Chrome and Google devices. If Microsoft wants users to adopt its cast feature, it must be slick and function well. The delay in releasing the feature demonstrates that Microsoft is taking its time to get it right.
