Arr! Th' Philadelphia Phillies be swashbucklin' with th' long ball, deliverin' grand slams aplenty, while their pitchin' be strong as a sturdy ship. They sailed to a triumphant Game 5 victory o'er th' Arizona Diamondbacks on a fine Saturday!
The Philadelphia Phillies bounced back after a tough loss in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Despite the setback, the Phillies showed great momentum and took a three-games-to-two lead with a 6-1 win in Game 5.The Phillies wasted no time getting on the scoreboard after their previous defeat. Bryson Stott started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by Bryce Harper's daring steal of home on a double steal play. Kyle Schwarber added to the lead with a solo home run, making it 3-0. Harper later contributed with another run.
Alek Thomas of the Diamondbacks hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning, but J.T. Realmuto outshined him with a two-run home run in the eighth, extending Philadelphia's lead to 6-1.
Philadelphia's starting pitcher, Zack Wheeler, continued his impressive postseason performance by pitching seven innings, allowing only one run and striking out eight. The combination of Jeff Hoffman, Seranthony Dominguez, and Matt Strahm sealed the deal in the final six outs.
Despite a solid performance from Zac Gallen, who pitched six innings for the Diamondbacks, he was charged with the loss after giving up four runs.
The Phillies are now just one win away from securing their second-straight World Series appearance, a feat they haven't accomplished since 2008 and 2009.
If the Phillies win Game 6 and the Houston Astros win their Game 6, it would mark the first time since 1977 and 1978 that the World Series featured the same teams in consecutive years, when the New York Yankees triumphed over the Los Angeles Dodgers twice in a row.
