Avast ye, mateys! Hark ye well! The latest iOS update be grantin' the iPhone 15 Pro the power to capture 3D moving pictures for Apple's magical headset, arrr! It be a treasure worth plunderin'!
Apple has introduced the ability to capture 3D spatial videos using an iPhone in its latest iOS 17.2 beta 2 update. This feature prepares users for the upcoming release of the Apple Vision Pro headset, which is expected to launch in early 2024. With this update, users can start recording videos using just their iPhone's main and ultra wide cameras, without the need for additional equipment.Although users cannot view these videos in their intended 3D environment yet, they can start filming videos to be used in 3D apps built using Apple's frameworks, like RealityKit. This allows developers to begin creating Vision Pro apps that integrate 3D video.
To enable spatial video capture on an iPhone, users need to update to iOS 17.2 beta 2 and navigate to the Settings app. From there, they can select "Camera" and enable the "Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro" toggle. Once activated, the Camera app will have a Spatial option for video recording.
According to Apple, videos captured in this way will be recorded at 1080p and 30fps, with a minute of spatial footage taking up approximately 130MB of storage space. However, users will need to wait for the release of the Vision Pro headset to capture videos using the device itself.
This update offers a glimpse of the capabilities of the Vision Pro and allows users to start creating content for the headset. With the launch of the Vision Pro, users will have even more options for capturing immersive videos and experiencing them in a 3D environment.
