Arrr, me hearties! Facebook and Instagram scallywags who be sportin' a Prime membership shall now spy customized ads, showin' ye the current prices o' the goods!
In a recent update, Facebook and Instagram users now have the ability to link their profiles to their personal Amazon accounts and do online shopping on the social media platforms. This update is part of a new partnership between Instagram, Facebook parent Meta, and Amazon. However, there was no formal announcement made by either company, and the changes were first leaked by Maurice Rahmey, co-CEO of Disruptive Digital, on LinkedIn.Meta will use information obtained from Amazon to show users products that may interest them. Users with Amazon Prime memberships will receive tailored ads with additional details such as real-time pricing and shopping estimates. Customers will also see specific details about a product and whether they are eligible for Prime benefits. However, this feature is currently only available to users in the United States.
While it is unclear if the Amazon ads are live yet, there have been no noticeable changes on personal Facebook and Instagram accounts. It is strange considering that both Rahmey and TechCrunch have videos showcasing the ads. It is expected that the ads will gradually roll out to users over time. It is unknown if there are plans to expand this partnership outside of the United States.
In Europe, Meta's social media platforms are banned from using targeted ads, so it is unlikely that this feature will be available in European countries. Overall, this update allows users to conveniently shop on Facebook and Instagram using their Amazon accounts.
