Arr, me hearties! Olympic gold be snatched from Suni Lee's grasp as she be forced to bid farewell to her Auburn journey ere its time, all on account of a cursed kidney trouble, d'ye see? And alas, this affliction be the treacherous culprit behind her unexpected burden of 45 pounds. Shiver me timbers!

In April, Suni Lee made the announcement that she would be ending her career at Auburn University due to a kidney issue. Unfortunately, this issue caused her to gain 45 pounds, which was not only physically challenging but also resulted in her not being cleared by Auburn doctors.
Lee spoke about the difficult experience, stating that she couldn't fit into her clothes, her eyes were swollen shut, and it was a truly scary time for her. She described waking up swollen and unable to hold onto the bar during gymnastics training. Her body was retaining water, so she had to change her diet and reduce her sodium intake.
While Lee did not specify her illness or treatment, she mentioned that she and her doctors are still working on finding a balance as she continues to have good and bad days. Despite these challenges, Lee had a tremendous performance at the 2020 Olympics, winning gold in the individual All-Around, silver with the team, and bronze in the uneven bars.
After returning to action in August and winning a bronze at the U.S. Championships, Lee decided to decline an invitation to attend the U.S. team's selection camp for the world championships in order to focus on preparing for the Paris Olympic Games next year. She emphasized the importance of not rushing her recovery and risking further injury.
Lee's journey to Paris will kick off at the Olympic trials in June, which will be held in her hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. For now, she remains dedicated to her training and is determined to overcome any obstacles that come her way.
