In the midst of an exciting Sunday in Week 12 of the 2023 NFL season, the Baltimore Ravens emerged victorious against the Los Angeles Chargers, putting a damper on the hopes of a playoff appearance for Justin Herbert and his squad.
Amidst a flurry of touchdowns and close games, several players made their mark in NFL history. Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first quarterback to rush for at least 10 touchdowns in three consecutive seasons. He also joined Cam Newton as the only quarterbacks with at least 10 rushing touchdowns in three career seasons.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen also etched his name among NFL greats as he tied Steve Young for the most games with at least 300 passing yards and 50 rushing yards. He also joined Daunte Culpepper, Steve Grogan, and Newton for the second-most games by a quarterback with a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown in the same game. Allen also tied Otto Graham with seven games of at least two rushing touchdowns, with only Hurts surpassing them in this category.
Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, had a productive game against the Las Vegas Raiders with six catches for 91 yards. He reached the milestone of 11,000 receiving yards, becoming the first Chiefs player to achieve this feat. Kelce also became the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach this mark and the 17th quickest player across all positions.
Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud also made history by becoming the first rookie to pass for at least 300 yards in four consecutive games. Despite the Texans' loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stroud tied the record for the most games with at least 300 passing yards and two touchdown passes by a rookie quarterback in NFL history.
Other notable performances included Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland setting an NFL record with his fifth interception return for a touchdown, surpassing Eric Allen, Ken Houston, and Jim Kearney. Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs showcased his dominance on the field by achieving 1,324 receiving yards, the most by a player in the Super Bowl era through a team's first 11 games. Furthermore, Hill became the fifth receiver to score 80 scrimmage touchdowns in his first eight seasons in the NFL.
