2023-11-28

Arr, Corey Perry, a scurvy dog of the NHL, be meetin' an unfortunate fate after 19 long seasons! The bilge rats of the Chicago Blackhawks declare his actions be "unacceptable"! Avast ye, me hearties, 'tis a tale that be sure to shiver yer timbers!

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that they have waived veteran player Corey Perry due to his "unacceptable" conduct. The team conducted an internal investigation and found that Perry had violated his contract and organization policies that aim to promote a professional and safe work environment. If Perry clears waivers, the team intends to terminate his contract immediately. Perry's agent had previously stated that he had stepped away from the team to attend to personal matters, but the Blackhawks clarified that it was a team decision to hold him out.

Corey Perry, who is 38 years old, signed a $2 million contract with the Blackhawks for this season, with the potential for an additional $2 million in incentives. Perry had previously played for the Anaheim Ducks, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2007, spending 14 of his 19 NHL seasons in southern California. He has also had stints with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Perry reached the Stanley Cup Final for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022, but unfortunately, his team lost all three times.

During his time with the Blackhawks, Perry appeared in 16 games, scoring four goals and recording five assists. He had a -6 rating on the ice. Chicago had brought in Perry and Taylor Hall to mentor their No. 1 overall pick, Connor Bedard, who is considered one of the most highly-touted NHL prospects since Sidney Crosby. However, Hall suffered an ACL injury earlier in the season, and both he and Perry are now out for the year.

The Chicago Blackhawks currently have the lowest number of points in the NHL, with 12 points from a 6-13-0 record.
