Amazon has redesigned its Alexa mobile app with a focus on improving the software’s layout and reorganizing key sections. The tech giant has been making changes to Alexa throughout 2023, and now it has rolled out the rest of the update in one big push. The Home tab has a more structured layout with a Shortcuts carousel at the top, an Activity section in the middle, and Favorites at the bottom. Shortcuts organizes devices by category and displays commonly-used features. Users can customize the carousel to suit their needs. Activity cards display time-sensitive information like reminders or upcoming alarms. Favorites offer quick access to frequently used devices. The Devices page has been revamped and now serves as the app’s new settings menu. It includes a Groups feature for easier configuration and an upgraded search function for sorting devices. The updated Alexa app is available for Android and iOS, with the latter having an exclusive feature called Map View that creates a digital floor plan of a house and pins all connected smart home gadgets. However, Map View is only available as a preview in the United States. There is no information on a widespread release or availability on Android. TechRadar has also provided a list of the best smart speakers for 2023.
