Avast! Microsoft be tellin' ye, once Windows 10 be buried in Davy Jones' locker, ye scallywags will have to fork over yer doubloons for updates!

Microsoft has announced that starting from October 14, 2025, it will no longer provide support for Windows 10. Users who wish to continue using the operating system will have to pay for security updates. This decision has raised concerns among many people, but it is understandable considering that Windows 10 will be 10 years old by that time and Microsoft will likely have released Windows 12 and still be supporting Windows 11. Supporting three different operating systems would be a challenge even for a big company like Microsoft.
While it would be nice to continue receiving free updates for Windows 10, it is actually for the best that Microsoft focuses on supporting its current OS by releasing security updates, bug fixes, and new features. The option for users is to upgrade to Windows 11, which Microsoft has been trying to encourage for some time now. Upgrading to Windows 11 will provide users with new features and free updates until the end of the operating system's life.
Alternatively, users can choose to stick with Windows 10 but will have to pay for security updates. However, it is not recommended as without updates, the PC will remain unpatched and vulnerable to security risks. Malicious actors will likely target unpatched versions of Windows 10. Another option is to switch to open-source Linux, which offers similar features and applications as Windows 10, and many distributions offer Long Term Support versions that are free and will be updated and supported for a long time.
While the choice does not have to be made immediately as there is still time until October 14, 2025, it is worth considering to avoid using a compromised version of Windows 10 in the future.
