Arrr, matey! Threads be sportin' its own swashbucklin' form o' topic-based tags that be resemblin' hashtags, yet sportin' a unique twist o' their own. Aye, 'tis a pirate's tale like no other, me hearties!

Threads, a social media platform owned by Meta, has recently introduced hashtags, or as they call them, "tags." The addition of this feature, along with the expansion of search capabilities to users worldwide, shows that Threads is maturing as a social media platform and becoming a viable alternative to Twitter, which is now known as X. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced these updates, stating that the introduction of tags is a significant development.
Threads tags differ from the hashtags found on Instagram or X. While those platforms allow multiple hashtags per post, Threads only permits a single tag. This limitation encourages users to be more selective and relevant when choosing a tag. Additionally, Threads tags can be longer and include spaces, allowing for more descriptive and specific tags.
When tags are created or used, they become part of Threads search. However, there is no separate interface for searching tags, and posts with tags look similar to other posts on the same topic. Adding a tag to a Threads post is simple - users can select the desired text and tap on the hashtag icon to turn it into a tag.
Mosseri hinted at more changes to come, aiming to create a space that fosters healthy conversation. Although the introduction of tags is a positive step, some improvements could be made, such as displaying trending tags in a dedicated area. Despite this, Threads continues to establish itself as a viable social media platform, while Twitter descends into chaos and oblivion.
