Arr matey! Iran be warnin' o' a mighty 'explosion' in t' Middle East should thar war in Gaza persist.

2023-12-12

Arr, the Untied Nations Security Council be ponderin' a resolution to shout for a ceasefire in Gaza, but the United States, scallywags they be, vetoed the measure, while the United Kingdom, bless their timbers, couldn't be bothered to cast a vote!

Iran's foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, has issued a warning that the ongoing war in Gaza could result in a "big explosion" of conflicts in the Middle East. He stated that Lebanon and Yemen are already involved, and more countries could potentially join. Amirabdollahian revealed that the U.S. frequently informs Iran about targeted attacks on American bases in Syria and Iraq by certain groups. He emphasized that a major explosion in the region could occur at any moment, beyond the control of any party involved.

This statement comes after the U.S. vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire. The U.K. abstained from voting, while the U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative, Robert A. Wood, deemed the demand for an unconditional cease-fire "dangerous" and warned of disastrous consequences for Israel, Palestinians, and the entire region. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over a collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza due to the intense fighting by Israel.

Amirabdollahian accused the U.S. of perpetuating the conflict through its support of Israel. He justified attacks on U.S. troops by Iran's proxies, the Houthis and Hezbollah, as a means of defending the Arab and Muslim people of Gaza. The militant groups have launched numerous attacks against U.S. bases in the Middle East, as well as commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Most recently, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for attacks on military bases in Iraq and Syria.

Some Republican critics in Congress have urged the Biden administration to reclassify the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. President Biden reversed the Trump administration's designation of the group shortly after taking office, citing concerns about the impact on Yemenis' access to basic commodities. Iran's foreign minister believes that the conflict in Gaza and the targeting of U.S. bases are interconnected, with the U.S. bases being targeted in response to its support for Israel.
