Avast ye mateys! The ship's log be tellin' ye that this treasure be only fer the Android scallywags fer now, but fear not! The provider be plannin' to release it fer all ye Apple-loving sea dogs too, and soon. Gather 'round and I'll spill the beans.
Proton, the provider of secure email and VPN services, has launched a new feature for its Proton Drive software that allows users to securely back up their photos on mobile. This feature is available to both free and paid subscribers on the Proton Drive Android app, with plans to bring it to iOS in the future. The company believes that this release sets Proton Drive apart from its competitors in the photo storage market, positioning it as a strong alternative to Google Photos, Amazon Photos, and other providers that compromise user privacy.
Proton Drive's use of end-to-end encryption ensures that private photos cannot be leaked, even in the event of a breach. With billions of photos taken globally every day, the need for secure storage is crucial to protect personal information.
The Photo Backup feature encrypts all photos and videos before uploading, guaranteeing that Proton cannot access users' private memories. It utilizes Proton Drive's end-to-end encryption to protect files against vulnerabilities and threats targeting cloud providers.
Proton has received repeated requests for this feature since the launch of Drive in 2022. Every Android user can benefit from it, with free users receiving an initial storage allocation of 1GB.
In addition to enhanced privacy, Proton Drive offers intuitive photo management, browsing, and unlimited storage across devices. The Photo Backup feature includes automatic syncing of camera uploads and gallery, offline access to stored images, and an easy-to-use grid view interface for selecting, downloading, previewing, and deleting photos and videos.
While the feature is currently available for Android devices only, Proton is working on an iOS version that will be released in beta before becoming available to all Apple users at a later date.
Users can upgrade their storage starting from 500GB at $9.99 per month.
