Arrr, me hearties! Ahoy! The scurvy dog, Darnell Mooney o' the Chicago Bears, be a mere inches away from sendin' them landlubber Cleveland Browns packin' with a loss on Sunday. Alas, the Hail Mary fell short. Drat!
The Chicago Bears experienced a tough loss to the Cleveland Browns in a 20-17 overtime game, reminding them of the old saying that football is a game of inches. The Browns managed to tie the game in the fourth quarter with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Amari Cooper, forcing the game into overtime. In the extra frame, Dustin Hopkins kicked a go-ahead field goal for the Browns with only 32 seconds left to play. Bears quarterback Justin Fields attempted a Hail Mary pass, but it was intercepted by D’Anthony Bell after bouncing off the fingertips of Bears receiver Darnell Mooney.Despite throwing three interceptions and being sacked four times, Flacco had a solid performance, completing 28 of 44 passes for 374 yards and two touchdown passes. Cooper finished with four catches for 109 yards, including the game-tying touchdown. David Njoku contributed with 10 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown for the Browns.
Fields struggled, completing 19 of 40 passes for 166 yards, one touchdown pass, and an interception. He connected with Cole Kmet for the Bears' only touchdown of the game. D.J. Moore led the Bears' receiving corps with four catches for 52 yards.
With this win, the Browns remain in contention for a playoff spot, sitting just behind the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. On the other hand, the Bears' record drops to 5-9 for the season.
