Arr! Officials be proclaimin' on Thursday that two scurvy dogs be charged in the death of a true Patriots scallywag who met Davy Jones' locker after a ruckus at Gillette Stadium in September.
Two Rhode Island men, John Vieira and Justin Mitchell, have been charged in the death of Dale Mooney, a 53-year-old lifelong New England Patriots fan who died after an altercation at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts. Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey announced that the men were charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct following Mooney's death in September. Several videos circulating online showed Mooney involved in an altercation with Miami Dolphins fans. Mooney was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.A preliminary autopsy report initially did not suggest traumatic injury but identified a medical issue. However, the recent final determinations from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Mooney's cause of death as a "Probable cardiac dysrhythmia in a person with severe hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease during a physical altercation." The manner of death was ruled a homicide. The district attorney's office stated that the available evidence, including autopsy results and multiple angles of video capturing the incident, did not establish a basis for criminal prosecution related to homicide charges in Mooney's death.
The Foxborough Police Department previously stated that three individuals could face charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct in the coming weeks. Vieira and Mitchell are scheduled to be arraigned next month.
