Arrr, Dom DiSandro be walkin' the plank, fined and suspended for mixin' it up with that scurvy dog Dre Greenlaw, a fierce 49ers linebacker! But fear not, me hearties! The Eagles security chief be settin' sail to appeal the punishment, fightin' like a true buccaneer!
The NFL has decided to uphold the punishment for Dom DiSandro, the security chief of the Philadelphia Eagles, following his sideline altercation with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. DiSandro's appeal of a $100,000 fine and a ban from the sideline for the remainder of the regular season was denied. The Eagles have already paid the fine. However, DiSandro, also known as "Big Dom," will still be allowed to travel with the team and perform other work-related duties. He will also be permitted on the sidelines for playoff games since the Eagles have already clinched a postseason spot. The incident occurred when DiSandro pulled Greenlaw off Eagles star receiver DeVonta Smith and shouted at him after a reception in the third quarter of a game against the 49ers. Greenlaw, who was penalized for unnecessary roughness, retaliated by reaching over two officials and putting his hand in DiSandro's face. The NFL later fined Greenlaw for the unnecessary roughness penalty.
The league sent a memo to teams emphasizing the policy that prohibits non-player personnel from making physical contact, taunting, or insulting opposing players or officials. Only game officials or coaches should intervene in altercations, and violations could result in fines or suspensions.
DiSandro, who has been with the Eagles since 1999, serves as a senior adviser to general manager Howie Roseman and oversees all safety and security matters for the team. He is responsible for security at the training complex, team travel, and logistics, as well as educating players on the NFL's personal conduct policy.
Despite the punishment, DiSandro's role with the Eagles remains intact, and he will continue to contribute to the team's operations.
