Arrr, ye landlubbers be spyin' them electric scooters sailin' along the city streets, carryin' folk from one spot to t'other. But what if these wee vessels o' transport could perform some mighty grand feats, ye say?
Electric scooters have become a common sight on city streets, but what if they could do more? The Scootility "utility scooter" was designed with that question in mind. Currently in prototype form, the Scootility is being developed by a Vancouver-based electric mobility startup. Its most prominent feature is a 140-liter lockable weatherproof cargo box that can be quickly swapped for another as needed. Other features include front and rear suspension, a full LED lighting system, and a battery range of up to 62 miles. The scooter's capability could be useful for deliveries and first responders in hard-to-reach places. It is about as long as a typical bicycle and has a fold-out leg rest that doubles as a glove compartment. The scooter is more compact and agile than cars or vans, cheaper to run, and can be parked on sidewalks without a driver's license. The company plans to enter production 12 months after acquiring funding and presales will begin before then. The price will be approximately half that of front-loading cargo bikes. The Scootility offers a versatile and efficient solution for urban transportation and could potentially help solve congestion problems in major cities.
