Avast ye! Intel, be they swashbuckling scallywags, be announcin' their newest line o' processors at CES 2024! A fine fleet o' 14th-gen Intel Core i-series processors be sailin' in, ready to conquer the seas wit' their Raptor Lake Refresh architecture!
Intel announced its latest lineup of mobile and desktop processors at CES 2024. Instead of the expected next-gen AI chips, Intel is releasing the remaining chips from its 14th-gen Raptor Lake Refresh series. This includes new enthusiast-grade HX-series processors for laptops and new 65W and 35W 14th-gen desktop chips. The Intel Core mobile processor Series 1 family is also being expanded, targeting the best thin and light laptop systems. The 14th-gen processors are designed to deliver high-end performance for both enthusiast and mainstream PC users, with the HX-series processors focusing on top-tier performance for mobile users.The HX-series includes the Intel Core i9-14900HX with eight performance-cores and 16 efficient-cores, promising improvements in single and multi-thread performance. These processors also support up to 192GB of DDR5-5600 memory and come with Thunderbolt 5 support and enhanced wireless features. On the desktop side, there are 18 new processors offering up to 5.8 GHz turbo frequency and improved performance compared to previous generations.
The 14th-gen processors cater to various vertical markets and handle AI and compute-intensive tasks efficiently. However, they do not have the AI capabilities of Intel's Meteor Lake processors. Enthusiasts will have to wait for Intel Arrow Lake for a socketable chip with dedicated AI processing.
Intel's CES 2024 announcement marks a transition as the company moves past the hybrid core architecture. The focus for 2024 will be on Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, and Lunar Lake chips. Intel's plans for five processor generations by 2025 are not clear. Until then, enthusiasts can look forward to the final Raptor Lake Refresh chips for high-performance silicon from Intel.
