Arrr, me hearties! Methinks that the ChromeOS camera be thinkin' 'bout pilferin' one o' Pixel's finest treasures. 'Tis a treacherous tale, indeed!

Google may be bringing the Super Res Zoom feature from its Pixel phones to ChromeOS, potentially improving the digital zoom capabilities of Chromebooks. Currently, Chromebooks only have front-facing cameras for video calls and selfies, but certain ChromeOS devices, like the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5, do feature rear cameras. While many people don't typically use the rear camera on non-phone devices, the addition of Super Res Zoom could change that.
The news of this potential feature comes from 9to5Google, who discovered a change in code within the ChromeOS Camera app that suggests the addition of digital zoom paired with 'super-resolution'. While it may not seem like a significant change, it's worth noting that ChromeOS cameras, including internal webcams, currently lack even a basic digital zoom function. The addition of digital zoom and the super-resolution feature could greatly improve photo quality on ChromeOS devices with rear-facing cameras.
However, the practicality of using a Chrome tablet for super-zoomed-in photos may be questionable. While better camera quality is always desirable, the addition of digital zoom to ChromeOS cameras may leave some wondering why it's necessary. Nonetheless, the basic addition of digital zoom will be a welcome improvement.
