Arrr, me hearties! Stetson Bennett's NFL voyage be stuck betwixt twixt, as Cap'n Sean McVay o' tha Los Angeles Rams be keepin' his words vague 'bout whether he'll be returnin' fer the 2024 sailin' season. Aye, the sea be a treacherous mistress, me mateys!
The status of Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett remains a mystery, as he has been on the reserve/non-injury football list since leaving the team early in 2023 for undisclosed reasons. Head coach Sean McVay was unable to provide a definitive answer on Bennett's availability for the 2024 season during his end-of-year press conference.McVay stated, "I don't know that. I think that's a conversation for another time. I think he's doing better, but I wouldn't be in a position to answer that accurately right now. That's probably a long way away from me being able to answer that."
Bennett had a successful training camp for the Rams and became Matthew Stafford's backup. However, he left the team early in the season without explanation. Brett Rypien and later Carson Wentz served as backups for Stafford.
McVay provided some updates on Bennett, mentioning in October that he was "doing well." Bennett was honored by the Bulldogs at a Georgia-Ole Miss game in November, during which he received the Burlsworth Trophy for being the top walk-on in the country.
Bennett impressed the Rams' coaching staff during the preseason, throwing for 333 yards with a touchdown and an interception over two games. He had a successful collegiate career at Georgia, totaling 8,429 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions over 42 games. In his senior season, he threw for 4,128 yards, 27 touchdowns, and led his team to a national championship victory over TCU in 2023.
