The Friday night game between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks has been postponed due to the unexpected passing of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević. The NBA announced this unfortunate news on Thursday. The rescheduled date for the game will be announced later. Additionally, the Warriors' game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night was also postponed.Milojević suffered a heart attack at a private team dinner in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was hospitalized on Tuesday night. Tragically, he passed away the following morning. Milojević had been on the Warriors' coaching staff for three seasons and was there when they won the NBA championship in 2022 against the Boston Celtics.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed his devastation at the loss, highlighting Milojević's positive and joyful nature. He was not only a great basketball coach but also an amazing human being. The entire Warriors organization and all who knew him are mourning his loss and offering their condolences to his family.
Milojević had an impressive basketball career both as a player and a coach. He coached Denver Nuggets' superstar center Nikola Jokic before coming to the United States and had been a head coach in Serbia and Montenegro. He also played professional basketball overseas for 14 years, winning the MVP of the Adriatic League three times.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also expressed his condolences, recognizing Milojević's contributions to the basketball community internationally. The Warriors' next scheduled game is against the Atlanta Hawks on January 24th.
