Arrr, mateys! Good news befall Terrence Shannon Jr., for a jolly federal judge hath lifted his suspension from the Illinois basketball crew. Aye, 'twas a charge of rape that got him in a pickle, but now he be free as a parrot on the seven seas!
Illinois basketball star Terrence Shannon Jr. has been reinstated after a federal judge granted his motion for a temporary restraining order against the school. Shannon had sought the order against the school's board of trustees earlier this month, so he could return from a suspension after being charged with rape. U.S. District Judge Colleen Lawless granted Shannon a preliminary injunction, and the school confirmed he would rejoin the team immediately. The school stated that Shannon has been reinstated to full status as a university student-athlete and will be available for basketball practice and competition. The court order will be reviewed, and the case will be monitored. Shannon's attorneys argued that the university did not follow its protocols and rushed to judgment. Lawless stated that the school is prohibited from suspending Shannon before allowing him the protection of policy through the school's Office of Student Conflict Resolution. Shannon transferred to Illinois from Texas Tech and played in 11 games this season, averaging 21.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. The school said it was aware of the allegations since last September but had not received actionable information until December. Shannon was an All-Big Ten first-team selection last season. Illinois, ranked No. 14 in the country, will host Rutgers on Sunday. Shannon has missed six games.
