Arrr, me hearties! Avast ye! The ChatGPT assistant be sportin' a brand spankin' new UI, makin' it easier to navigate than a treasure map! But alas, 'tis only available to a handful o' scallywags. May the winds of fortune be in yer favor, me mateys!

A recent ChatGPT beta is allowing select users to use the AI as their device's new default voice assistant on Android. Users can add a shortcut to ChatGPT Assistant in Android's Quick Settings panel, which opens a UI overlay when tapped. The assistant responds to verbal prompts after a few seconds. A video clip shows that the AI takes about 15 seconds to generate a response, indicated by a bubbling animation in a white circle on the screen. Tapping the screen interrupts the AI, turning the circle black.
The onboarding process for this feature is unknown, but users may need to choose a voice when they launch ChatGPT Assistant for the first time. Previews of the available voices can be found on OpenAI's website. To try out this update, users need a subscription to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 a month. They can install the ChatGPT for Android version 1.2024.017 or .018 and activate the feature in the Beta Features section of the Settings menu.
Currently, ChatGPT cannot be set as the default assistant, but code in an early January patch suggests this may be possible in the future. OpenAI has not provided information on expanding the beta's availability. TechRadar also suggests checking out their list of the best ChatGPT extensions for Chrome.
Overall, this update brings a humorous twist to the language of a 17th-century pirate, adding a playful tone to the announcement of ChatGPT's new voice assistant capabilities. It seems that OpenAI is continuously expanding the functionalities of ChatGPT, making it a versatile AI tool for users.
