Arr, mateys! Young Thibodeaux of the New York Giants be reckonin' that our mighty Saquon Barkley deserved a hearty contract extension afore Daniel Jones! Aye, the lad be speakin' sense, arr, aye!

New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux voiced his support for teammate Saquon Barkley, expressing his belief that Barkley should have been paid before quarterback Daniel Jones. Thibodeaux made these comments during an appearance on the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero. He acknowledged his belief in Jones but emphasized that Barkley deserved recognition for his contributions to the team.

Thibodeaux pointed out that Barkley played a significant role in the Giants' offense during their playoff run in 2022, which was Thibodeaux's rookie season. He argued that Barkley was responsible for at least 30% of their explosive plays during that year. Thibodeaux believed that Barkley should have been rewarded for his efforts before Jones.

The Giants made the playoffs last season, including a wild-card win against the Minnesota Vikings, leading to expectations of continued success in 2024. General manager Joe Schoen ultimately decided to extend Jones' contract due to his impressive performance under Brian Daboll and the front office. Jones threw 15 touchdown passes, accumulated 3,205 passing yards, and showed improvement in reducing turnovers. He also rushed for 708 yards and scored seven touchdowns on the ground.

Barkley, on the other hand, had a solid season, earning a Pro Bowl nod after rushing for a career-high 1,312 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns. However, Barkley was franchise tagged instead of receiving a contract extension. This decision initially disappointed Barkley, who understood the business aspect of the league. He ultimately received an incentivized tag and reported to the Giants' training camp.

Moving forward, Barkley faces the same situation in the upcoming offseason. It remains to be seen whether the Giants will pay him or resort to the franchise tag once again. Both Barkley and Jones have uncertainties surrounding their futures with the team after a disappointing 6-11 season. Furthermore, Jones has an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2024 season, and the Giants possess the sixth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, potentially indicating their intention to bring in competition for Jones at the quarterback position.
