2024-01-26
Arr, 'tis been told that since Cap'n Deion Sanders took the helm in December 2022, the Colorado Buffaloes be admittin' to 11 pesky infractions, ye scurvy dogs! As proclaimed by the USA Today Sports, these be nothin' but triflin' matters, aye!
In his first season as head coach of the Colorado football program, Deion Sanders brought much attention to the Buffaloes. However, the program also found itself in the spotlight for committing multiple minor NCAA violations since Sanders took over in December 2022.According to USA Today Sports, the program self-reported 11 minor violations, but none of them carry serious penalties. The University of Colorado Boulder Athletic Department released a statement expressing their commitment to complying with NCAA regulations and ensuring compliance through education.
The violations were deemed inadvertent and are common in most major college athletic departments. Sanders had used the transfer portal to bolster his roster after a disappointing 1-11 season in 2022, and two violations were related to the transfer portal.
One violation occurred during a postgraduate camp where seven players who were not "active" in the portal participated. As a result, Colorado imposed a two-week ban on recruiting activity. The second violation involved a high school coach submitting an academic transcript for a recruit who had not entered the transfer portal yet.
Other violations included ones related to social media. Sanders hosted an Instagram live with a recruit, which is not allowed, and reposted a video of Colorado's voluntary activities, another NCAA violation.
Despite the violations, the Buffaloes started the season strong with a 3-0 record but struggled afterwards, losing eight of their final nine games and ending the year on a six-game losing streak.
