Avast! Be it true? Have we laid our eyes upon Windows 12? Nay, the year 2025 shall bring us this newfangled OS!

2024-01-31

Arr, mark me words, mateys! 'Tis a clue that be tellin' us we shan't be havin' a fresh OS this year, but a mere Windows 11 24H2 update.

In the language of a 17th century pirate, arrr, mateys! It seems that we may have caught our first glimpse of Windows 12, if ye can believe it. Microsoft be makin' a big change with their test builds of Windows, me hearties.
One scurvy dog by the name of XenoPanther noticed that the internal Canary versions of Windows 11, those in the earliest testin' channel, were just forked with a new build 27547 comin' into play. The most recent build in the Canary channel be version 26040, but now we have builds in both the 26XXX and 27XXX range. It begs the question, me mateys, is the latter Windows 12 in its first test phase?
According to a well-known pirate, Zac Bowden, the next release of Windows be likely the 26XXX branch, rumored to be Windows 11 24H2. That means the 27XXX versions could be the next incarnation of Windows after that, arrivin' in 2025.
But ye should know, me hearties, that Windows 11 24H2 be all-new, not just on the surface, but deep under the hood with a new platform called Germanium. Arrr, it be offerin' considerable performance and security benefits.
So it seems that Windows 12, or whatever they be callin' it, won't be comin' this year. Windows 10 be walkin' the plank in 2025, so it makes sense for a new OS to sail in as the old one sails out. And it be avoidin' the trouble of fragmentin' the user base into three camps.
As a bit of trivia, me hearties, Microsoft be usin' codenames for their OS development semesters. The next one be called Dilithium, after avoidin' arsenic due to its scary and violent reputation. Arrr, it be a cool codename for Star Trek fans, don't ye think?
That be all for now, me mateys. Keep a weather eye on the horizon for more news of Windows 12, or whatever Microsoft be plannin' next.
