Arrr! Patrick Mahomes II be settin' his sights on winnin' his third Super Bowl title next week. But his ol' man, Pat Mahomes Sr., still be thinkin' a pair o' Hall of Famers be outshinin' his scurvy son. Avast ye, me hearty!
In the land of the National Football League, there resides a young man named Patrick Mahomes, known far and wide as the Chiefs' primary starting quarterback. This lad, who was drafted in 2017 and has been slinging the pigskin for six seasons, has quite the impressive resume. He's a two-time NFL MVP and has even won a pair of Vince Lombardi Trophies, which are quite the rare treasures indeed. Not only has Mahomes thrown for over 4,000 yards every season he's been the full-time starter, but he's also making his fourth appearance in the prestigious Super Bowl next week. Some folks have even gone so far as to compare him to the legendary Tom Brady, who is widely considered the greatest to have ever played the game. But alas, Mahomes' dear father, Pat Mahomes Sr., is not quite ready to hand him the title of greatest of all time.
While Mahomes Sr. admits that his son is heading in the right direction, he still believes that Brady and another legendary quarterback by the name of Joe Montana hold the edge. It seems that Mahomes Jr. has a ways to go before he can claim the throne.
There are indeed similarities between Mahomes' path and the accomplishments of Brady and Montana when they were his age. Montana won his second Super Bowl in his late 20s, while Brady had already won three by the time he turned 28. However, neither Brady nor Montana were named NFL MVP until they were in their 30s, unlike Mahomes who earned his first league MVP trophy in 2018 and his second in 2022.
It's difficult to predict whether Mahomes will be able to sustain excellence for as long as Brady did, given that the man played for a mind-boggling two decades. But for now, Mahomes will strive to win his third ring as he leads the Chiefs into battle against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. And thus, the tale of this young pirate quarterback continues to unfold.
