Avast ye, matey! Never forget yer Vision Pro passcode, or ye'll be sendin' yer fancy headset back to Apple, arrr!

Avast ye mateys! If ye be forgettin' yer secret key to unlock yer Apple Vision Pro, ye be needin' to sail back to the Apple Store or send it to Apple's ship to have it reset, or be forever locked out of yer treasure!

The Apple Vision Pro, while offering many features, is missing some key functionalities. One of the strangest omissions is the ability to reset the device if the user forgets their passcode. During the set-up process, users are asked to enter a six-digit passcode, similar to iPhones and iPads. While there is an option to set up an Optic ID login method, there are times when the passcode must be entered, such as after restarting the headset.
If a user forgets their passcode on an iPad or iPhone, they can connect the device to their Mac or PC and wipe the data to unlock it. On an Apple Watch, the passcode can be erased using the digital crown or a connected iPhone. However, the Apple Vision Pro only allows for erasing all content, including the passcode, through the Settings app. If a user is locked out of their headset due to a forgotten passcode, they must either take it to an Apple Store or ship it back to Apple for a reset.
Unfortunately, there is currently no at-home workaround for this issue. Some users have reported using the Developer Strap, which adds a USB-C port to the Vision Pro, to erase the content and passcode using a Mac. However, this strap is expensive and limited to registered developers. It is unclear if this method is effective.
It is expected that Apple will eventually provide an alternative way to erase the passcode, especially when the gadget is available outside the US. In the meantime, users are advised to keep their passcode secure and take precautions to avoid forgetting it.
