Avast ye scurvy dogs! A fresh scuttlebutt be tellin' us that MacBooks and Chromebooks be lackin' in the repairin' department! Aye, they be doomed to Davy Jones' locker, with naught but a paltry score o' repairability!

In a new industry report, MacBooks and Chromebooks have been deemed to have low repairability scores. The report, titled "Failing the Fix," was conducted by the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) and based its findings on repairability scores required for laptops sold in France. Chromebooks scored lower than the average for all other laptops, with a grade of 6.3 compared to 7.0. The report specifically highlighted Chromebooks as being less repairable than other laptops, despite being considered an affordable choice. Apple fared even worse, receiving the lowest repairability rating and a D grade. In terms of disassembly, Apple received a miserable score of 4.0, while its competitors such as Asus and Acer scored much higher. The PIRG report also took into account factors such as industry group affiliations, availability and affordability of spare parts, frequency of updates, and availability of repair documents.
Apple has long been criticized for its unfriendly stance towards device repair and the right to repair movement. However, the company has recently made repair kits available and supported California's right to repair bill. The PIRG report acknowledged Apple's efforts to improve repairability, although they still lag behind other brands. Google, on the other hand, faced criticism for limiting support for older models, making repairs more difficult. While the company later offered extended support for Chromebooks, it didn't appease all critics. The report concludes that potential buyers of Chromebooks or Apple laptops should consider the ease of repair before making a purchase.
In related news, Apple has taken a major step towards making iPhone repairs cheaper, and Google has been accused of sabotaging Chromebooks by cutting updates.
