Arrrr! The brave spacefarin' crew be back on land, mateys! They sailed through the celestial sea aboard a grand SpaceX vessel, then made a splashdown in the vast Atlantic Ocean, havin' completed their three-week voyage to the lofty International Space Station.
A group of astronauts, including individuals from Turkey, Italy, and Sweden, have returned to Earth after a three-week mission to the International Space Station. The crew, accompanied by a retired NASA astronaut now working for Axiom Space, returned in a SpaceX capsule that landed in the Atlantic off the Florida coast.Turkey celebrated Alper Gezeravci, who became the first person from Turkey to fly in space. Gezeravci, a former fighter pilot and captain for Turkish Airlines, was joined by Italian Air Force Col. Walter Villadei, Sweden’s Marcus Wandt, and Michael Lopez-Alegria, their escort.
The mission was financed by Turkey, Italy, and Sweden, with each country paying approximately $55 million. This was Axiom's third private mission to the space station, with a fourth planned for later this year.
Before leaving the space station, Gezeravci expressed gratitude to his country for its decision to send a citizen into space as part of its 100th anniversary as a republic. During their time in orbit, the astronauts conducted science experiments and engaged in conversations with schoolchildren and officials from their respective countries.
The crew also enjoyed some extra time at the space station, waiting for improved weather conditions in the splashdown zone. Overall, the mission was a success, furthering advancements in space exploration and showcasing the possibilities of commercial space travel.
