In a devastating attack, a Russian drone struck a gas station in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, resulting in the death of seven individuals, including three young children. The drone, an Iranian-made "Shahed," targeted civilian infrastructure in the Nemyshlyan district, causing a massive fire that engulfed 15 private houses. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, suffered significant damage as a result.Kharkiv region Governor Oleg Synegubov announced the tragic news, revealing that two children, aged seven and four, as well as a six-month-old infant, were among the victims. The bodies of five individuals were discovered in a private residence, with Synegubov identifying them as the children's parents.
Additionally, a couple aged 66 and 65 lost their lives in another facility. Despite the devastating loss, Synegubov expressed gratitude that more than fifty people were rescued from the attack.
The fire, ignited by the targeted petrol station, quickly spread to surrounding buildings, causing extensive damage. Video footage captured the ferocity of the flames tearing through the structures.
The Ukrainian air force reported that they successfully neutralized 23 out of the 31 Russian drones launched overnight. The majority of the drone strikes were directed at the Kharkiv region and the southern province of Odesa.
Firefighters and rescuers worked tirelessly throughout the night to manage the aftermath of the attack, extinguishing fires and clearing debris. Russia, however, maintains that it does not intentionally target civilian sites.
This assault occurred as the Russian invasion and ongoing conflict in Ukraine approached its second anniversary. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the devastating toll that warfare inflicts on innocent lives.
