During the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade, chaos erupted when gunfire broke out, causing panic and fear among the attendees. One teenager, Gabe Wallace, found himself separated from his friend as they tried to run for safety. As Gabe tried to climb over a fence, he fell, but was eventually taken inside Union Station, where he received comfort from head coach Andy Reid.
Gabe recounted the moment, stating that Reid hugged him and asked if he was okay, urging him to breathe. Reid stayed with Gabe for a while before checking on other people. Eventually, Gabe was reunited with his friend.
The shooting occurred near the Union Station parking garage, with over 800 police officers present in the area. Among the 22 victims, 11 were children, but all are expected to recover. At least one weapon was recovered by the police.
Several Chiefs players also played a role in calming down panicked children. Trey Smith even gave one child his WWE title belt and stayed with him until he calmed down.
The Chiefs released a statement confirming the safety of all players, coaches, and staff. They expressed their sadness over the senseless act of violence that occurred during the parade and rally.
