2024-02-15

Arrr! After a grand span o' 11 years, the College Football video game be makin' a glorious return to the shelves this summer, as announced by EA Sports on a fine Thursday mornin'! Avast ye, me hearties, prepare to set sail on virtual gridiron adventures once more!

In a nostalgic announcement, EA Sports revealed that its College Football video game will be making a comeback after an 11-year absence. The game series first debuted in 1993 as Bill Walsh College Football, named after the renowned coach. It underwent a name change to College Football USA for two seasons before becoming NCAA Football from 1998 to 2014.
The game's hiatus was due to disputes between EA, the NCAA, and college athletes. Previous versions featured cover athletes, but they were not allowed to be compensated for their likeness. Additionally, player names were not displayed in the game, with athletes being referred to by their position and number. However, with the recent introduction of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rights, players will now be recognized by their actual names.
The new game, titled College Football 25, does not have an official release date yet but is expected to launch this summer. EA Sports had previously announced the game's return three years ago and even promised a release last summer, which did not materialize. More information about the game will be revealed in May.
Denard Robinson, a former player for the Michigan Wolverines, was featured on the last cover of the game. Fans and gamers are eagerly awaiting the return of this beloved franchise, which has been a staple in the world of sports video games for decades.
