Avast ye landlubbers! The Signal app be in beta, but fear not, ye can now use a username to parley with other scallywags. Gather 'round and I'll teach ye how to join the fun!
Arrr, me hearties! After a successful pre-beta period, the popular encrypted messaging app Signal be saying goodbye to phone numbers for good, all in the name of privacy. Ye can now connect with other scallywags on the app by using a username instead of yer phone number. Ye still need a number to register, but it won't be visible to others in Signal anymore. This new feature be available for beta users only at the moment, but will be rolled out to everyone soon.To use a Signal username, ye can keep yer number private by creating a unique username to chat with other users. This username ain't like a social media handle and won't be stored in plaintext by the provider. Ye can change yer username or delete it anytime in the Settings tab. The provider be also adding a new privacy setting to control who can find ye by yer phone number.Signal be known for its dedication to privacy and security, testing the username option last year to reduce the personal information users need to share.
