Ahoy mateys! Rejoice, for Microsoft be joinin' forces with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel to enhance the upscaling of yer PC games. Prepare to set sail on a high seas o' high-quality graphics and smoother gameplay. Aye, 'tis a grand adventure awaitin' ye!
Microsoft has just announced DirectSR, a new API developed in collaboration with major GPU manufacturers to allow game developers to seamlessly integrate Super Resolution into new PC games. Programmer Joshue Tucker highlights in the official blog post that DirectSR fills the gap developers have been waiting for when it comes to SR integration, providing a smoother, more efficient experience that scales across hardware. The API will support multi-vendor SR through a common set of inputs and outputs, enabling a single code path to activate solutions like Nvidia DLSS, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS. This universal approach will save developers time and effort by easily integrating upscaling technology from all three GPU makers.DirectSR aims to make it easier for game developers to implement super-resolution upscaling technology into their titles, eliminating the need to work with separate APIs for Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. This universal solution could lead to more games supporting DLSS, FidelityFX, and XeSS simultaneously, offering gamers more options for enhancing performance and image quality regardless of their GPU.
