Ye scurvy dog Rashid Byrd, who bravely took to the court for the Lakers' D-League in '08, has been condemned to spend 90 years in the brig for his crimes against virtue. Mayhaps he should stick to swashbuckling on the court, savvy? Arrr!
In a tale fit for the high seas, former professional basketball player Rashid Byrd has been sentenced to spend the rest of his days in the brig, after being in custody for 3½ years. Byrd, who once sailed the courts in the NBA D-League and overseas, was given a harsh sentence of 90 years to life for a series of violent sexual assaults. The scallywag was captured by the Los Angeles Police in 2020, after a victim reported being assaulted the previous year. This wasn't Byrd's first run-in with the law, as he had previous convictions for sexual assault in 2010 and an arrest for a similar crime in 2005.Det. Dara Brown, the lead investigator, spoke of Byrd's descent from charm to violence, preying on women who were drawn to his athlete status. The LAPD praised the brave women who came forward, ensuring that Byrd's days of terrorizing the streets are over.Standing tall at 7-foot-1, Byrd had the chance to join the ranks of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, but never set foot on the NBA court. He did, however, make a cameo in the film "Semi-Pro," adding another chapter to his dark and twisted tale.
