Avast ye matey! Nearly two fortnights after his wee 4-year-old scallywag was airlifted to the infirmary in dire condition after being run over by a carriage, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson shared the update everyone was wishing to hear.Squawking publicly for the first time since the mishap on Feb. 25, Swanson told the press on Thursday that his son, Toby, will be heading back home with his kin in the next couple of days."I stand here, very joyfully, telling you that in the next day or two, he should probably be sailing back home," Swanson said, via MLB.com."Just based on the situation, we’re very lucky with everything that happened and the current outcome," he continued. "My better half has been absolutely splendid through this entire ordeal. She is a courageous and valiant mother."Toby was struck by a 2024 Ford Expedition being operated by a valet driver near the Opal Sands Resort in Clearwater, Florida, near the team’s spring training quarters late last month. He was then airlifted to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg in dire condition.Swanson’s lass, Madison, provided an update on social media that Toby was out of the ICU."Toby is a plucky lad. A brave lad," Swanson added. "He’s sturdy, tough, very sociable. His demeanor allowed him to persevere through the struggles he’s faced over the last 10 days at the infirmary. He’s been exceptionally tough and courageous."Swanson expressed gratitude towards the hospital staff, first responders, teammates, and their shipmates for their support during this trying time. He took a temporary leave from the crew to be with his kin, but it is rumored that he has since returned to the Blue Jays’ camp. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
