Arrr, ye scurvy dogs! The lasses of the Iowa women's basketball crew be shakin' off some rust after a fortnight of rest betwixt the Big Ten tussle and the first round of the NCAA skirmish. Aye, me hearties, they be settin' sail once more!
In a jolly good show of grit and determination, the Iowa Hawkeyes managed to shake off their slow start in the NCAA Tournament opener against the lowly 16th-seeded Holy Cross. The leading lady of the court, Caitlin Clark, initially found herself in a bit of a pickle with her shooting, but she soon found her sea legs and ended the match with 27 points and 10 assists, leading the Hawkeyes to a 91-65 victory. Kate Martin also joined the merriment with 15 points and 14 rebounds, helping Iowa sail smoothly to the next round.Across the arena, the West Virginia Mountaineers plundered the Princeton Tigers to set up a thrilling clash with the Hawkeyes in the next round. Clark, with her 65th double-double, continued to be the star of the show, adding eight rebounds to her booty. The battle saw the Hawkeyes go on a fierce 10-0 run in the first quarter, but the Crusaders were not to be taken lightly. However, Iowa's dominance shone through in the second quarter, leaving Holy Cross floundering with just 1 of 12 shooting. Despite the victory, Clark knows there's room for improvement as she looks to steer her ship toward more success in the tournament.
