In a jolly good bill introduced last week, the aim be to seek reparations for the families who were displaced from their homes after Dodger Stadium was built on the land. Arrr!Dodger Stadium be openin' in Chavez Ravine back in 1962, and she be the third-oldest MLB stadium, behind only Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. But when she first opened her gates, around 1,800 families, mostly of Mexican American descent, were forced to up anchor and move on.The bill says those poor residents were promised a new affordable housing complex, but that never came to be. "With this legislation, we be addressing the past, giving voice to this injustice, and offering reparative measures to honor the legacy of the families and communities of Palo Alto, La Loma, and Bishop," said Assemblywoman Wendy Carillo.They be proposin' various forms of compensation, includin' city-owned real estate comparable to the original land and fair market value compensation adjusted for inflation. Aye!Assembly Bill 1950 reads that if the state determines the bill contains costs mandated, reimbursement shall be made. The Dodgers sailed to Los Angeles after playin' in Brooklyn, as the owner did not want a domed stadium.
