Avast ye mateys! Microsoft be bombardin' us again with their pesky adverts on Windows 11. We be growin' weary of this nonsense! Arrr!

Arrr, word on the high seas be that Microsoft be thinkin' of pushin' apps in the Start menu. Avast ye, mateys, this idea be gettin' a trial run! They be tryin' to make the Start menu a treasure trove o' apps. Arrr, what'll they think of next?

Microsoft be testin' addin' a fresh batch o' ads to the Windows 11 interface, this time in the Start menu. Recent diggin' in preview builds had suggested this move was in the cards, and now those cards have been dealt to testers in the Windows 11 preview Beta channel with a new build (version 22635). The ads be placed in the ‘Recommended’ panel o' the Start menu, highlightin' apps from the Microsoft Store that ye might want to try. These promoted pieces o' software appear with a brief description in the Recommended section, alongside the other content such as yer commonly-used apps.As Microsoft makes clear in the blog post introducin' the build, this be only rollin' out in the Beta channel, and just in the US. Testers who want to do so need to open the Settings app, head to Personalization > Start, and switch off the slider for ‘Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.’This idea be already flagged up as hidden in test builds, but now it’s a reality – at least for a limited set of testers in the US. Microsoft be tentatively rollin' this out to a small set o' testers, testin' new experiences and concepts for feedback.Advertising like this, wrapped up as suggestions or recommendations, be becomin' common with Windows 11. In this case, the idea be drivin' traffic towards the Microsoft Store, aimin' to improve performance. However, shovin' ads in a paid OS interface be not well-received. Testers need to provide feedback on this and let Microsoft know how they feel.
