Arrr matey, Captain Belichick be throwin' shade at young Drake Maye, likenin' him to the dreaded Josh Allen of the Bills. Methinks there be a storm brewin' in the Patriots' locker room, arrr! Aye, beware the wrath of the coach, ye scallywags!
In a humorous 17th-century pirate's language, Bill Belichick be not in the New England Patriots war room this offseason, but he do be havin' an opinion on the team's first round draft pick. On "The Pat McAfee Show" draft night special, Belichick did sound lukewarm in his take on the Patriots selectin' former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 pick. Belichick did seemingly throw shade at the pick over Maye's comparison to Josh Allen. After tradin' away Mac Jones earlier in the offseason, Belichick did admit that the quarterback position be one of the Patriots' "top" needs in the first round. But Maye did not seem to be the lad Belichick would have chosen. Belichick did praise Maye's talent and physical attributes but did note his lack of experience and need for improvement in reading defenses.Maye enters the Patriots under a new regime with a new offensive coordinator. In his time at UNC, Maye did show promise with impressive passing stats and accolades in the ACC. However, Belichick do be cautious about Maye's inexperience and the work he needs to do to become more consistent in his play.
