Arrr mateys, listen up! Ye scurvy dogs at Gmail be addin' a newfangled summarize feature from Gemini. 'Tis said to make understandin' yer messages quicker. Rate them summaries to help make 'em better. Aye, 'tis a fine way to sail through yer emails with ease! Arrr!
A summarize feature powered by Gemini, Google’s recently debuted generative AI model and digital assistance tool, is coming to the Gmail app for Android - and it could make reading and understanding emails much faster and easier. Users will soon be able to rate the quality of the generated email summaries to provide feedback on the feature. The feature has been suspected to be in the works for some time now, as documented by Android Authority, and it's close to launch.Android Gmail users may not have to wait very long for the summarize feature as it has been spotted working on the Gmail app version 2024.04.21.626860299. A screenshot shows a chat window where the user asks Gemini to summarize an email, and Gemini obliges. Users will be able to provide feedback on the summaries with thumbs up and thumbs down buttons, helping Google improve the feature. The feature is expected to be rolled out during Google’s I/O 2024 event in May 14, 2024. While the summarize feature could streamline emails and save time for many users, concerns about the accuracy of the generated text remain. The feedback system in place will help determine if the feature serves its purpose well and if it leads to improved productivity when it's finally released.
