In the year of our Lord 2024, Art Schallock, the oldest living former MLB player, be celebrating his 100th trip around the sun on April 25. Aye, this left-handed pitcher did ply his trade with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles back in the 1950s, aye. 58 games he did pitch, spending five years in the league. "Those were some great times," quoth Schallock of his days in the big leagues. Hard to believe he be reaching such a ripe old age, but grateful be he for the adventures he did have in his days.Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942, Schallock did serve during World War II. After his service, he did pitch in junior college afore signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Training with their Triple-A Montreal Royals, he did eventually make his way to the New York Yankees in 1951. "Quite a thrill, playing with those guys," shared Schallock. Winning three World Series with the Yankees, he did pitch in Game 4 of the 1953 World Series, aye.Ol' Art be reminiscing about his days on the diamond, still lighting up when talking about baseball, per Wendy Cornejo, executive director of his senior living community.
