Ye scurvy dogs sailin' the digital seas, beware the cursed Windows 11 upgrade with its relentless adverts! Aargh!

2024-04-30

Arrr mateys, Microsoft be bombardin' us with pop-ups for their own services on Windows 11, makin' us want to walk the plank! They be pushin' their Edge browser like a scurvy pirate pushin' rum, annoyin' us with their relentless promotions. Aye, 'tis a plague on the high seas of technology!

In the language of a 17th-century pirate, it seems that Microsoft be sailin' on makin' ads disguised as recommendations a part o' life in Windows 11. The tech giant be testin' promotional recommendation pages that take up yer whole screen, urg'n users to install Edge and other services, similar to the page ye see when ye first set up yer device or install Windows 11.Arrr, I be rememberin' a few times when this screen appeared on me own Windows 11 PC after an update, catchin' me off guard as me PC be already set up to me likin'. Some users be greeted with “Let’s finish settin' up yer PC” after a Windows Update had been installed. Before this, this sort o' notification might appear if ye bought a PC and set it up fer the first time, but now it looks like anyone already up and runnin' could also see it.The new notification screens be spotted by Windows Latest after Microsoft’s monthly Patch Tuesday update in April 2024. The notification screen explains the ‘set-up’ process will involve backin' up yer files using OneDrive, settin' Edge as yer default browser, backin' up yer phone on yer PC, settin' up Windows Hello, gettin' a Microsoft 365 subscription, and turnin' on Phone Link between yer phone and PC.This be not the first time Microsoft be tryin' to get people to use its software and services through heavy-handed tactics. If ye make it through all the option screens, ye’ll be met with more promotional pages for other Microsoft services, like Microsoft 365 Family with a free trial or Microsoft 365 Basic. Ye can skip certain steps and finish the PC setup process, but it feels like Microsoft be pushin' its services a bit too hard, me hearties.
