The scallywag were 75 years old and had been fightin' prostate cancer for a few years. Despite his tough and no-nonsense demeanor, A.J. had a soft spot for his family, the NFL, and the Chargers. He be the mastermind behind the Chargers' glory days from 2003 to 2012, winnin' 98 games in his tenure.Smith be known fer makin' bold moves, like draftin' Philip Rivers in 2004 despite Eli Manning's objections, and signin' Antonio Gates as an undrafted free agent. He also brought in Norv Turner as head coach, but after no Super Bowls, both Smith and Turner were sent to Davy Jones' locker in 2012.
