Arr mateys! The fresh Golden State WNBA crew, set to sail in 2025, hath dubbed themselves the Valkyries. They revealed their colors and flag on "Good Morning America." Aye, let the games begin!
The WNBA’s new Golden State franchise has found its identity as the Golden State Valkyries, the league’s first expansion team since 2008. The name comes from Norse mythology and aligns well with their affiliate team, the Golden State Warriors. Valkyries are described as fearless and unwavering warrior women, a fitting image for the team on the court. The team will begin playing in 2025 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, with a color scheme of "Valkyrie Violet" and black symbolizing power and women’s empowerment. The logo incorporates the Bay Bridge, representing the unity of the Valkyries in flight and the connection between Oakland and San Francisco. The team’s president, Jess Smith, emphasized the importance of marrying innovation and progress in the Bay Area with women’s sports. A "Valkyrie Block Party" will welcome the team to the area on May 18. The franchise aims to build a brand with intention and success in everything they do, reflecting the spirit of the Valkyries as they prepare to take the court.
