Arrr, the US scallywags be losin' their floatin' pier, but fear not, for aid be reachin' Gaza by land now!

2024-05-26

Arrr mateys, the Yankee-made pier on the coast of Gaza be taking a batterin' from the weather this past weekend, while them scallywags from Israel be finally lettin' some aid through one o' their crossings near Rafah. Aye, 'tis a fine mess we find ourselves in!

In a jolly good turn of events, aid has started pouring into the Gaza Strip from southern Israel after a cheeky U.S.-made "floating pier" on the Mediterranean Sea was roughed up by the weather. The reason for this change in route is a tiff with Egypt over disagreements, leading the IDF to take charge of the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing usually used for aid transport during this kerfuffle. Egypt, in a huff, shut its side of the border and won't open it until Palestinians are back in the driver's seat.Across the way, hundreds of aid trucks made their merry way through Israel's Kerem Shalom crossing, but those nosy United Nations chaps are struggling to get to the aid due to a ruckus nearby. The aid, now more crucial than ever, is key following the damage to the U.S.-built "floating pier." Four vessels helping out got loose in the stormy seas, with two washing ashore in Ashdod, Israel, and the other two bobbing near the pier.Efforts are afoot to rescue these wayward boats with a bit of help from the Israeli Navy. The U.S. splurged about $320 million on this pier, which has been a lifeline for aid from various nations. Despite transferring tons of aid, none of it had reached the Palestinians yet, causing a bit of a stir. Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder confirmed the delay, while both the U.S. and Israel are making a fuss over no U.S. troops actually setting foot in Gaza. Let's hope this hullabaloo doesn't scuttle the aid efforts!
