Avast ye hearties! Gather 'round as I regale ye with the tale of Derwin James Jr., a swashbucklin’ safety for the Los Angeles Chargers. This brave lad set sail for U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in San Diego, thinkin' he’d be learnin' a thing or two about the high seas, but little did he know, he’d come back with a treasure trove of leadership skills fit for the gridiron! With the good folks at USAA steerin' the ship, young James embarked on mock rescue missions and high-speed chases on the ocean waves like a true buccaneer, takin’ the wheel of the Coast Guard’s swiftest vessel! Aye, he was chasin’ down scallywags who dared to smuggle the seas. But that’s not all! They hoisted him up like a flag in a basket, plummetin’ him into the deep blue as a “person in the water.” Talk about a wild ride!
Though fear threatened to grip him, he felt as safe as a ship in a harbor, surrounded by brave servicemembers. “Aye, I was nervous when I dangled over the sea,” he said, “but these fine folks had my back!” He learned the importance of teamwork and trust, just like on the battlefield of football. After this grand adventure, ol' Derwin's ready to lead his crew into the stormy seas of the 2024 season, inspired by the valor he witnessed among the Coast Guard's finest! Arrr!
