Arr! Ye see, YouTube be teamin' up with Google's Aloud tech to bring us a tool that can make multi-lingual video dubs. Avast ye! Can ye imagine the possibilities? We can hear our favorite pirate films in any language we please!
Arrr mateys! YouTube be helpin' its creators reach a grand international audience with a new dubbin' tool that uses AI to translate content into different languages. Announced at VidCon 2023, this new feature be aimin' to provide a cheap and easy way for creators to dub their videos into languages they don't speak. To make it happen, YouTube be usin' the Google-created Aloud and the AI team from Area 120, their parent company's experimental tech division. The translation system works by havin' the AI transcribe the video into a script, which ye can edit to get rid of any errors or highlight critical text. Then ye give the edited script back to the AI, and it will automatically translate the video into the language of yer choice. Creators don't even need to understand the language they're dubbin' into, as Aloud handles all the heavy liftin' like translation, timing, and speech synthesis.
The AI can currently only translate English content to Spanish or Portuguese, but YouTube be workin' on expandin' it to other languages and dialects, with plans to improve enunciation. The platform will also have safeguards to ensure only creators can dub their own content. Over 10,000 videos have already been dubbed in over 70 languages, and YouTube is testing the AI with hundreds of creators. Ye can join the early access program by fillin' out the official Google Docs form. If ye want to hear what an Aloud dub sounds like, check out the Amoeba Sisters channel trailer on YouTube.
