Natasha Cloud, lassie of the Washington Mystics in the WNBA, didst retort to Enes Kanter Freedom's criticisms on Twitter in the wee hours of Wednesday, as their banter raged on.
WNBA player Natasha Cloud and Enes Kanter Freedom engaged in a Twitter feud after Cloud called the U.S. "trash" following recent Supreme Court rulings. Kanter Freedom responded on Twitter and on "Fox & Friends," expressing disbelief that people in the U.S. could complain when they have the freedom to say whatever they want without the risk of being jailed. Cloud, however, responded by expressing respect for Kanter Freedom's lived experience in his country and hoped he would have the same respect for her as a black gay woman in the U.S. A Twitter user suggested that the two should collaborate on something to bring about positive change, which Cloud agreed with. The feud began when Cloud tweeted that the U.S. is trash in many ways and that marginalized groups are still being oppressed. Kanter Freedom responded by inviting Cloud or others who share similar views to experience other countries firsthand. He mentioned regimes such as China, Russia, Iran, and Turkey, and stated that criticizing them would result in jail and torture. Kanter Freedom also brought up WNBA star Brittney Griner's arrest in Russia as an example of how great America is. Cloud later spoke out against critics of her comments, stating that they needed to come up with something better than telling her to move to another country. She listed various issues that America is capable of addressing, but chooses not to, such as healthcare, education, mass shootings, racial disparities in incarceration, and women's rights. She referred to America as a business that allows politicians to profit and spread false ideologies to divide the people.
