Arrr, young Robert Bush, a mere lad of 17 summers, be afloat on the treacherous seas of life, held together by naught but the tenuous thread of life support. 'Twas a mighty "cardiac event" that felled him whilst engaging in the fierce exercise of football. Pray, may the winds of fortune blow him back to vitality!
A 17-year-old high school football player from Long Island, named Robert Bush, is currently on life support after collapsing during conditioning drills. The incident occurred at Newfield High School in Selden, New York. According to his older brother Steve, Robert experienced a cardiac event after only four minutes of drills. The coaches immediately responded by performing CPR and using a defibrillator before emergency medical responders arrived and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of those around him and medical services, Robert did not have any blood or oxygen in his brain for 45 minutes. As a result, there is no more brain function, as confirmed by Steve Bush. The cause of his collapse remains unknown, as he had not previously shown any signs of a heart condition. Robert had a goal of playing varsity football and was working on improving his health. Despite not being the most athletically gifted individual, he was determined to succeed. The Bush family has a large number of members, having cared for over 300 foster children. Robert was adopted by the family and has 10 siblings. Tragically, they have also faced other hardships, with the passing of their mother due to cancer in 2017 and their father currently dealing with his own medical issues. The Selden community came together to show support for Robert by holding a gathering at the high school field, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the family.
